Matt Hood

Chief Education Officer

Matt leads all programmes at Ambition School Leadership and the Institute for Teaching. He is a former teacher, school leader, government policy advisor and education charity director. Matt is a trustee of The Brilliant Club, a Teach First alumnus and a Winston Churchill Memorial Trust Fellow.

Marie Hamer

Executive Director of Learning Design and Teaching Programmes

Marie leads programme design at Ambition School Leadership and the Institute for Teaching. She is a former Teach First National Curriculum Leader and Head of Ark Teacher Training. Marie is also a member of the DfE Expert Group for the Early Career Teacher Framework.

Peps Mccrea

Dean of Learning Design

Peps is a former Fasttrack maths teacher and Senior Lecturer in mathematics education. He has been a National Curriculum Advisor for the DfE, External Examiner at the OU, and is the author of Lean Lesson Planning and Memorable Teaching. Peps has three Masters degrees (in Engineering Design, Educational Leadership, and Educational Research) and holds Fellowship Awards from the University of Brighton and the Young Academy.

Harry Fletcher-Wood

Associate Dean

Harry leads on our Fellows course. He is a former English and history teacher and has taught in Japan, India and London. He has been head of careers, head of history and head of professional development in schools and has trained teachers, and studied exceptional teaching and local educational needs, for Teach First. Harry recently published his new book – Responsive Teaching: Cognitive Science and Formative Assessment in Practice.

Katy Patten

Associate Dean

Katy is a former history teacher and Deputy Director of Sixth Form in a challenging south London school. Most recently she was Head of Curriculum Development for Ark Teacher Training. As well as leading the development of an ‘outstanding’ ITT curriculum, Katy led on the design and delivery of a professional development programme for Ark’s first school in Delhi. She is also an alumnus of Teach First and a school governor.

Nicki Whiteman

Interim External Relations Director

Nicki is a former Senior Broadcast Journalist at Heart FM and the BBC where she fronted live news programmes and interviewed leading figures from politics and entertainment. Since transitioning into communications Nicki has held senior positions in organisations including the education charity Achievement for All where she was Chief Communications Officer.

Madeleine Anderson

Director of Programme Operations

Madeleine was previously Director of Social Investment and Innovation at Catch22, a social business that delivers public services to help people turn their lives around. She started her career at McKinsey and in private equity, before spending six years as a social entrepreneur establishing an SME finance company in East Africa.

Ed Butcher

Interim Talent and Partnerships Director

Most recently, Ed worked as a director at Teach for All where he helped establish and scale new variants of the ‘Teach First’ model around the world. Prior to this he led a growth and transformation team at Teach First. Ed is also a qualified teacher, and co-founder and trustee of East London Arts & Music Academy.

Our merger with Ambition School Leadership

The Institute for Teaching and Ambition School Leadership have merged to become a new organisation dedicated to supporting teachers and school leaders to keep getting better. We think that this is the best way to make sure that every pupil, regardless of their background, gets a great education. Our new organisation will be launched in spring 2019.
